What Are Our Piano Lessons Like?
Kids love music – it’s a big part of their lives. So why do most kids HATE music lessons? I figured out why…
The Problem Most kids view piano lessons as “just more homework”. It’s just another task to check off the list along with school, sports, extracurricular activities, homework, MORE homework, chores, and family obligations.
Why!?!? What went wrong?!?!
Sadly, most piano lesson programs focus on FACTS… and very little on creativity, music appreciation, or enjoyment.
It is amazing what can be accomplished when a teacher taps into a child’s natural curiosity and sense of exploration. By encouraging children to have fun and to relax at the piano, I remove the common roadblocks that prevent children from reaching their full potential… and having fun with music!

It is amazing what can be accomplished when a teacher taps into a child’s natural curiosity and sense of exploration. By encouraging children to have fun and to relax at the piano, I remove the common roadblocks that prevent children from reaching their full potential… and having fun with music!
The Solution I have made it my personal mission to innovate and put creativity, exploration, humor, and fun into my students’ piano lessons.
My students:
- Learn sight reading and steady rhythm from day 1 so that they are prepared for playing all types of music
- Review and retain all their lessons through the use of innovative educational programs and writing their own music (even my beginners!)
- Get all the benefits that science has shown music lessons provide (increased academic performance, higher IQs, etc.) in an encouraging and positive environment
- Move through their beginner books faster than the “average” time the publisher recommends (about 16 weeks per book)
- Learn all of their music during their lessons… so they feel energized instead of lost and confused when they get home
Intermediate and Advanced Instruction
Upon reaching an intermediate level of skill, students have more options available to them. Many of my students begin to explore music that THEY enjoy… Disney songs, pop songs, radio songs, movie songs, you name it!
Advanced students are taught college-level theory, and advanced relaxation techniques. A great deal of focus is spent on developing stylistic habits that define the best pianists of our day!

WHAT WILL I LEARN IN PIANO LESSONS?
I understand that every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals. I make it a priority to tailor how I teach and what I teach to your individual needs.
If you enroll here for piano lessons, I will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child. Together, we will develop a plan to achieve your goals! I love beginners, so even if you don't know where to begin, I can help!
DO I NEED AN INSTRUMENT AT HOME BEFORE STARTING LESSONS?
Absolutely! Student success hinges on their ability to practice between lessons. It’s very important to provide a good quality instrument and set up a dedicated practice space before your first piano lesson.
Minimal requirements for your home instrument are:

I teach all styles from rock, pop, jazz, country, worship, blues and classical. I combine the important fundamentals with the music YOU want to play.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TO PLAY PIANO?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn to play piano. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of my students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.

- Damper/sustain pedal
- Appropriate stand for the keyboard, including a bench that supports good posture
