HISTORY AND EXPERIENCE
Lithuania, my town Klaipeda 1985.
I was three years old when I knew I want to learn to sing, play piano and violin.
I still remember my first performance! I felt so thrilled and excited.
My mom snatched me a dress decorated with Christmas decorations and put the crown on my head. I was ready to go and shine during my first singing recital in the kindergarten.

Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence. Peter A. Levin
It took ten years for me to finally pick up my violin and start playing again. Indeed, it took me so long to regain love for this instrument and bring it back to my life. As I matured, those harsh experiences I had with my violin teacher finally dimmed away from my memory.. I realized the value of my violin knowledge so I joined local folk group and brought back my playing skills to life.
It was amazing experience to be a member of that local group “Laduta”. We toured with many beautiful and very successful concerts in Lithuania 🇱🇹. We were invited to participate in international eurasian culture festival in Turkey, Istanbul. From playing folk music to dancing Lithuanian folk dances and demonstrating Lithuanian traditional folk outfits, this was a very special time for me as I enjoyed performing on my violin…
Do not let trauma define your life. Take time to heal and embrace your life as an exciting journey with so many opportunities! Live fully and enjoy it!

Macedonia, Skopje 2005.
Singing in the Opera house.
As soon I started studying in the Skopje music Academy. At the same time I joined Macedonian opera choir. Choir was singing every weekend different operas, so we spent a lot of time on practicing, studying songs and acting.
The most unforgettable time I had when we were preparing new opera premiere Puccini “Madame Butterfly”.
For the first time in my life I had costume made especially for me and all make up and hair stile was professionally done.
I Enjoed every minute the feeling of being on stage with the professional Choir, soloists, instrumentalists, conductors. All this big stage was filled with so much energy, characters and beautiful sound.
It was world to me, it was magical.
Did you know that opera singers use more resonance when they sing in order to fill an entire hall with their sound. They don’t use microphones so their bodies become their amplifiers through an acquired vocal technique. My suggestion go to opera house and listen at least one opera in your life and have this wonderful experience.

Alma's Orchestra Conducting Profesor Fimcio Muratowski, Macedonia, Skopje.
Teachers and students, a connection for life. With my orchestral conducting teacher Fimcho Muratovski. He learned his craft in Zagreb, but also in Sankt Petersburg with Ilya Musin. So, nothing happens by chance!

I love to learn about history of each place I visit. Some countries and cities are simply amazing not to share about!
During my Bachelor studies 2005, I had privilege to participate in student exchange program Erasmus and study in the beautiful and exotic Macedonia, a warm country in the Balkan peninsula, southeastern part of Europe .
The country's geography is defined primarily by mountains, valleys, and rivers. I was studying orchestra conducting for a year in the St. Kiril & Methodius University and singing in the Opera House Choir in the capital and largest city Skopje. This city was under Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman rule in the past. Now it is the country's political, cultural, economic, and academic center.
The territory of Skopje has been inhabited since at least 4000 BC; remains of Neolithic settlements have been found within the old Kale Fortress that overlooks the modern city centre. Skopje then was called Scupi became the capital of Dardania in the second century BC. On the eve of the 1st century AD, the settlement was seized by the Romans and became a military camp.
When the Roman Empire was divided into eastern and western halves in 395 AD, Scupi came under Byzantine rule from Constantinople. During much of the early medieval period, the town was contested between the Byzantines and the Bulgarian Empire.
From 1282, the town was part of the Serbian Empire and acted as its capital city from 1346 to 1371. In 1392, the city was conquered by the Ottoman Turks. It stayed under Turkish control for over 500 years. At that time the city was famous for its oriental architecture.
In 1912, it was annexed by the Kingdom of Serbia during the Balkan Wars. During the First World War the city was seized by the Bulgarian Kingdom, and after this war, it became part of the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of Yugoslavia). In the Second World War the city was conquered by the Bulgarian Army, which was part of the Axis powers. In 1944, it became the capital city of Democratic Macedonia (later Socialist Republic of Macedonia), which was a federal state, part of Democratic Federal Yugoslavia (later Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia). The city developed rapidly after World War II, but this trend was interrupted in 1963 when it was hit by a disastrous earthquake. In 1991, it became the capital city of an independent Macedonia.

It was 2014 a new chapter in my life began when our family moved to Jacksonville, Florida. We settled in our house at the Navy base. One Sunday morning I went to the Catholic church that was located at the base to listen to the mass.
🎹
The mass was wonderful and I enjoyed listening to the choir. Although the choir was performing well, I noticed that they had no professional training. They didn’t have a choir conductor, only accompanist. Their sound needed to be tuned and they needed to learn how to breathe and support the sound property. I felt that I can help them improve.
🎤
When the mass was over, I stopped next to the priest Monsignor Ignacio and introduced myself. I asked him if any way I can help his Choir to sing better? He agreed that they needed help. They had to learn new songs for each mass but no one was teaching them. They were practicing with YouTube by themselves without any knowledge how to sing correctly. My skill set and experience became very handy as I began my work as a volunteer at Jacksonville NAVY St. Edwards Catholic Church choir.

"What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good." - Aristotle🙏
I enjoyed my volunteer work at Jacksonville NAVY St. Edwards Catholic Church Choir for one year. The congregation could hear a big difference in the quality of Choir singing and applauded after every mass...
👏
It was a wonderful experience to coach the Choir singers and conduct every Sunday during the services. I learned about catholic services, met bishop, priests and deacons. I was working to prepare special programs for Christmas and Easter. The church gave me appreciation certificate for volunteering and helping Navy community.
🎖
I agree with Gandi, who said that “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”.

It's easy to impress me. I don't need a fancy party to be happy. Just good friends, good food, and good laughs. I'm happy. I'm satisfied. I'm content”.

Most of the NAVY Catholic Church Choir members were Filipino singers. I had a chance to immerse into American and Filipino traditions. I observed that Filipinos are very social people and they love spending as much time as possible with family and friends. Every Sunday after mass they would meet for fellowship, eat donuts, drink coffee and enjoy a good laugh. Every other Sunday they would share food they make at home.
🧀🥒🥦🥖🍗
One Christmas, I was invited by at my Filipino friend to their house. They prepared traditional spit-roasted suckling pig with juicy meat and a crackling crust outside! What an amazing surprise it was for me to see it and taste it.
❤️
Few facts about Filipino traditions:
1. The entire landmass of the Philippines is made up islands, making it the second-largest archipelago in the world.
2. There are about 175 languages spoken in the Philippines 🇵🇭.
3. About 11% of the population of the Philippines – more than 11 million people – work overseas.
4. Filipinos are crazy about basketball! Same like Lithuanians.
5. Politeness is an art formed in the Philippines. They respect and cherish their elders, and that shows in many ways in everyday life…

GRANADA, SPAIN
“Music don’t need language, music need feelings“, said G. Cate and I fully agree.
🎼
Without knowledge of any Spanish, I arrived into Granada excited about this new chapter of my life.
😉
I believe that learning new skills is a greatest gift we can offer to ourselves. I continued of my education 🎓 while working in Granada, Spain was one of my goals. It was a privilege to take a master class with great Spanish Conductor Ignacio Garcia Vidal. It truly enriched my knowledge of music theory, Singing and Orchestra Conducting.
🎤
It was extremely great experience to work with Spanish musicians, conducting Spanish Orchestra, Choirs and even singing in first premier of Spanish Opera!
🎼
I learned Spanish in one year and I accomplished my dreams!
🏆
Never stop dreaming; only a dreamer can fly!

I truly enjoyed learning and growing during six years spent in Klaipeda University, Lithuania. It was a privilege to learn music, singing and choir from many successful and talented professors.
🎼
After graduation, I worked successfully in Lithuania for three years. One day, my old professor called me unexpectedly…
🤔
I found out that he had been working with “Federico Garcia Lorca” choir in Spain for a few years. He recalled that I was as one of the most talented students in his thirty years career and he invited me to work with him in Spain.
😇
That made me extremely excited and happy. I accepted this awesome opportunity without any hesitation! It could only be a dream to work with an amazing choir in Granada, Spain.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”― Mark Twain
During my Master studies in Lithuania, I had last chance to visit USA as a student. So I didn’t waste any day longer, applied required documents and participated in very popular program in Europe for students “Work and Travel USA”. I got last open spot and it was Alaska.
At first I was not happy and started doubting. I was saying why Alaska? It’s so cold there, bears 🐻, moose other wild animals who want to eat you.
Finally I decided to go, and it was life changing decision. I meet my future husband there, but about that later :)
There was students from all over the world. Europe, Russia, North America, Latin America, Asia...
When I arrived to Anchorage, first I felt the freshest air possibly you can smell, saw sparkling glaciers, amazing wildlife and towering mountains including the Chugach, Kenai and Talkeetna.

My great story started the day I landed in Alaska. I was astounded by the natural beauty, wildlife, and the landscape. The moments of Alaska would become my future to share with the present.
One beautiful september day when me and my friends went to celebrate a friend’s birthday on top of mount Alyeska, restaurant called “Seven Glaciers”. It would become a magical day when we were on our way to the birthday party because I met my future husband Cody. He was one of the American Students who came to work in Alaska resort for the summer.
Seven Glaciers was breathtaking experience, to see glaciers, snowmobiles. The place even had a dynamite cannon to get rid of potential avalanches.
If you have a chance to travel. Do it! You can meet someone very important who can change your life and be your destiny!

Denali, Alaska
Located between Fairbanks and Anchorage, Denali National Park is home to vibrant landscapes, local wildlife and the iconic Denali.
During my Music Master studies I had a great opportunity to explore Alaska. Denali National Park was on my bucket list to visit in Alaska. The first time I came into the park, I remember being comforted by the fact that there are probably places within Denali National Park that have never been stepped on by humans, making this the most wild land I'd ever set eyes on in awe by how vast the landscape was.
Bus ride through the breathtaking tundra was something that I might not have even dreamed about. We were rewarded by views of the entire Alaska Range and the view to Mount McKinley. I had a greatest trip that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Everyone Can Sing!
I go around saying that everyone can sing. But I often get the response: “Oh, not me, I’m completely tone deaf!”
🧐
The reality is that tone-deafness is an abnormality of the brain that affects a tiny, tiny proportion of the population. So it’s highly unlikely that you (or your friend who “can’t sing”) is tone deaf. If you can enjoy listening to music, then you definitely aren’t tone deaf.
👂
If someone starts to learn a new skill like playing tennis or the piano, there is no expectation that they’ll be brilliant at it straight away. They’ll be happy to practise on their own until they get better, then maybe join a class or the local team.
🥎
Yet with singing it’s different. For some reason we expect it to be an innate talent: you’re either born with the ability to sing or you aren’t. But just like tennis and piano, we need to practice, train our muscles, learn from feedback, and so on. Ears and mouths are just like eyes and feet: it takes time to connect the two.
🏃♀️
So next time someone says “I can’t sing, I’m tone deaf”, just tell them to take a private voice lessons or join a choir and get practicing!

Success story!
I enjoy working with this gentleman, who has never taking singing lessons before and at 65 he developed a passion of singing. I have the privilege to be his voice teacher.
After a year of working with him, he still was not able to sing on the beat. I was even dancing on the floor that he would start feeling it.
Explaining to him where to focus while singing, conducting him. Finally after last lesson a miracle happened. He sang his songs without my help from the beginning to the end without any mistake.
It’s never late to start singing!

I know a simple way!
Start singing the right way!
👏
How do I know? Well, one of my wonderful students, Ms. Wendy, shared with me that she had sleeping difficulties. She was over 70 years old when we met. After few weeks of us practicing together, she noticed that she felt healthier, more energetic and slept better during the night.
🤗
It was fascinating what I discovered after doing my research. Some people, especially elderly stop breathing properly during the night. This prevents their bodies and brains from getting adequate oxygen supply. When our body doesn't get enough oxygen, we can develop hypoxemia or hypoxia. ... Hypoxemia is low oxygen in the blood and it can cause hypoxia, low oxygen in tissues. This is when the blood doesn't carry enough oxygen to body tissues to meet our bodies needs.
🤩
Frequent breathing exercises and singing fueled Ms. Wendy’s body with extra oxygen which supported her body and tissues! She gained benefits of feeling happier and healthier by learning how to breathe and support her sound.

Sicily, Catania.
The Teatro Massimo Bellini is an opera house in Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. Named after the local-born composer Vincenzo Bellini, it was inaugurated on 31 May 1890 with a performance of the composer's masterwork, Norma.
🎭
The creation of what was to finally become the Teatro Massimo Bellini took almost two hundred years, beginning with discussions following the disastrous 1693 earthquake which completely destroyed Catania. The construction of a public theatre was discussed, and a foundation stone was finally laid in 1812.
🌋
The exterior of the house matches the distinctive Sicilian Baroque style of the neighboring buildings of the late 17th Century. Its marble foyer, the “Ridotto”, is ornate and stuccoed, and a statue of Bellini is located between the central arches.
The beautiful red-plush interior includes the main floor seating and four tiers of boxes. Surrounding them, on the upper level, are unusual arched arcades. The painted ceiling by Ernesto Bellandi depicts scenes from four of Bellini’s most well-known operas.
